The Dreamers #111 - With Musician Cass Hopetoun

Juggling motherhood, music, and everyday life, Cass Hopetoun is a powerhouse of creativity, laughter and love. From life with two little ones under two to finding time for her passion, she’s keeping it real—and making it work one day at a time. We caught up with Cass to chat about family life, hidden gems in Penrith, and how music still finds its way into the chaos.

WELCOME TO THE DREAMERS.

COME INSIDE THE HOMES OF EVERYDAY FAMILIES AND BUSINESS OWNERS DOING LIFE THEIR WAY.

____________

Hey Cass! Can you introduce us to your fam?

Oh hey! Alrightyyyy, there’s me—forever 21—my husband Blake, also forever 21, plus our two kiddos, Sophia (2 this month!) and Beau (4 months). Yes, we have two under two. Yes, we’re crazy, but we also love it!

Where do you call home, and are there any hidden gems in your area you’d love to share?

We live in Penrith now, but I grew up in the Blue Mountains, very close by. Honestly, I know so many hidden gems. It depends if you’re asking as a mum or not! Haha. Most of my favourite places are along the Nepean River here—Regatta Park for everything a toddler desires, ‘The River Walk’ if you feel like being active, plus my favourite café, ‘Lewers.’

Balancing a music career and family life must be quite the juggling act—how do you make it work?

I’m not really sure I’m making it work most days. Honestly, the best advice I give myself is to take every day as it comes. Nothing is set in stone. I let my kids lead the way most days and then schedule time to focus on my music when they’re with their grandparents (who are close by), at daycare, or sleeping. That way, I can focus purely on them for the rest of the time and be in creative mode without (very cute) distractions.

How has becoming a parent influenced your music or creative process?

I have to make time to be creative now, which is very different from pre-kids! Before them, I could just start writing a song whenever. Now, I’ll have an idea and be like, “Okay, kids, we’re going on a walk,” and literally sing the melody idea into a voice memo while we’re rolling around the block. The neighbours probably think I’m a little cray.

What does a typical day look like for you when you’re not on stage?

Look, most days are run by Princess Sophia, aka my 2-year-old. When Dad’s at work, my 4-month-old and I are at the whim of her desires for the day. Usually, we’re up at the crack of dawn, into a slow-moving morning routine, and then at the moment, the current craze is ‘Café Sophia,’ where Beau and I are served imaginary tea for an hour, surrounded by many stuffed friends who, quite honestly, aren’t much for conversation.

Then, it’s time for the gym or the park before nap time. In the afternoon, there will be some outside time, cooking, and more coffee (lots of caffeine these days) before a grandma-timed dinner, and then the kids are off to bed. Then it’s time for a scotch and working out a song I’ve been half-thinking about all day.

Are there any exciting projects or performances coming up that we should keep an eye out for?

Oh yes!! I’m planning so much at the moment and can’t wait to share what’s next. Stay tuned.

At Banabae, we’re all about spreading good vibes—what’s something that’s bringing you joy right now?

Dance parties with my daughter. I get to listen to my favourite country songs, and we have a ball dancing around the kitchen with all her stuffed animals—such a great reset for the day.

Fav Banabae picks?

My daughter is turning two this month, and I love the birthday range!! The Milking It onesie for my little one is super cute, too. My hubby and I love our Rad Mum/Dad tees for casual park days as well. Also, just anything from the ‘Early Riser’ series—I mean, honestly, babies have such hip nurseries these days.
