The Dreamers #104 - With Charlotte From Blossom On Film

Meet our latest Dreamer, Charlotte Julia Wyllie, also known as Blossom Film. With her 35mm film camera, Charlotte beautifully captures the essence of motherhood, the joyful chaos of family, and the journey of women nurturing new life.

WELCOME TO THE DREAMERS.

COME INSIDE THE HOMES OF EVERYDAY FAMILIES AND BUSINESS OWNERS DOING LIFE THEIR WAY.

____________

Hey Charlotte, tell us about your family.

Hey Banabae!! We are the Wyllies, and our family consists of Hugh/Husband/Dadda, a seafarer who spends half the year on boats and the other half of the year being an amazing father with a love for surfing, skating and all things adventure. Skipper is our "big kid", a two-year-old toddler with no fear, roars like a dinosaur constantly, loves bin trucks, diggers and spending time at the beach with his besties. Cheddar/Cheddy is our five-year-old rescue Groodle. She is our big, fluffy, goofy child who has come a long way from a cage in a puppy mill to living her best life by the sea. I'm Charlotte, aka Blossom Film. I love creating, being a mother, and doing everything outdoors. I talk a lot and have too many side hustles but love my life and so grateful for it!

Where is home? Any special gems you can share with us?

I am originally from Newcastle but moved to Byron with my bestie over 12 years ago after a stint on Hamilton Island. We both met our hubbies here who were also friends and now call Ocean Shores in the Byron Shire home. The coastline and hinterland are so beautiful and we are lucky enough to spend our days with the best humans - surfing The Pass or Wategos in Byron or riverside at high tide in Brunswick Heads.

Your film photography is a vibe! How did you get into this?

My love for film photography stems from my parents! They have the most amazing travel photos from their 20s and always took great pictures of us kids growing up on Dad's film camera he got for his 21st. I have always loved taking photos, but I returned to film in 2016 when I bought a Pentax k1000 for my travels. Nothing can beat the colours film produces, and I love that what you see is what you get!

I later purchased an underwater Nikonos IV film camera and started taking photos of chicks surfing around Byron. I had a little Instagram page called "Sea Lotties Film," which evolved into Blossom Film when I became a mother and didn't have as much time to be in the ocean. I started taking pics of my friend's pregnancies, adding a bit of my creative flare and love for colour and florals, and it all kicked off from there.

We'd love to know the story behind the name "Blossom Film." What inspired it, and is there any special meaning behind it?

I have found the name Blossom so beautiful for a long time because of its meaning when you relate it to life! I would have loved to call my future daughter Blossom, but at the time, thinking I was going to be a boy mum, I decided it would be perfect for my business as I was taking a lot of photos of blossoming mothers to be!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! How are you preparing for this exciting new chapter in your life? Do you have a birth plan or postpartum plan?

Thank you. This pregnancy has been a wild ride compared to my first with my son! I had months of sickness and complications, but we have made it to 37 weeks, and we are so grateful and excited to meet our little girl! I would love a water birth this time around, but I have no expectations as birth is wild, and anything can happen. I have such a beautiful bunch of women and family to support me through this postpartum period, but my main focus is going to be on nourishment and rest, as I didn't do enough of that last time! Navigating life with a toddler and newborn is going to be very interesting, though! Wish me luck!
