YOU ARE MAGIC MAMA: The first 40 days

YOU ARE MAGIC MAMA: The first 40 days

The first months of newborn life are miraculous. Full of so much love, wonder and happiness... but it is also like an  unexpected slap in the face! Your whole world as you know it has changed and you are now a 24/7 servant to a small but mighty dictator. Pacing the house patting and humming with leaky boobs, unwashed hair, an ugly maternity bra and an adult diaper. It’s repetitive, anxiety inducing and exhausting work but oh so worth it! The cuddles, the coos, the smiles (or is that wind?... nah definitely a smile), and the love... a love like no other.

This is the time your baby needs you more than ever so it’s super important that you, Mama, are being looked after as well as your baby.  There are plenty of things you can do to lighten the load and make this journey into motherhood a little smoother.

Forget the cooking - let others do it for you. Your partner, friends, family or order pre-prepared meals.

Make sure all these items are within arms reach at all times: snacks, water bottle, remote, phone... for the hours spent ‘stuck’ cuddling Bub.

Accept the help offered by others.

Sleep when the baby sleeps (easier said than done but try it as often as possible)

Set allocated times of day for visitors and ask that they only stay for max 30 minutes

Join a mothers group  - sharing honestly and being vulnerable with a bunch of other mamas going through the same thing  will fill your cup more than you can imagine.

Try to accept any advice with a grain of salt. Every journey is different. Trust your instincts because they are generally right. You are Magic Mama!

If you are looking to indulge in the wise words of others we can recommend you some tried and tested books to keep you company;
