Homemade Playdough
Kids love manipulating dough, and it’s great for their fine motor skills. This homemade playdough recipe is soft, lasts a long time, doesn’t stain little hands, and uses common ingredients you probably already have in the pantry.
Homemade Playdough Recipe
*Note: Because this recipe is very salty your child will probably have no desire to eat it. But you should always supervise young children while playing, as ingestion of a large amount would be a health hazard.
Ingredients:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
1/2 cup table salt*
1 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
Food colouring
Method:
1. Add flour, cream of tartar and salt to a saucepan.
2. Add a few drops of food colour to water, then stir into the flour mixture along with vegetable oil.
3. Heat your burner to medium / low. Cook and stir until your playdough starts to solidify. It will be a little lumpy but that’s ok.
4. Keep stirring your playdough mixture until it thickens.
Once the dough starts gathering together around the spoon you know it’s done. This may be 20 seconds or two minutes depending on how hot your stove is.
